Morning Routines That Bring Barakah to Your Day

January 24, 202515m

Episode summary

Ibrahim Shareef breaks down a morning routine built to win both this life and the next, not just the day. He argues the morning starts at Fajr because the Prophet (peace be upon him) asked Allah to bless the nation in its early hours, and that the single non-negotiable ingredient is a firm connection to God before anything physical or logistical follows.

Key takeaways

  • The goal of a Barakah-filled morning is not just to win your day but to win your deen, your worldly life, and your afterlife at once.
  • The morning truly begins at Fajr, because the Prophet (peace be upon him) asked Allah to bless the nation in its early hours.
  • What you do matters less than why you do it, so pray Fajr with mental and spiritual presence rather than rushing through it.
  • Anchor your morning in remembrance and Quran, even if it is just one word or one verse, as long as it is active and consistent.
  • Protect the first 30 minutes after waking from your phone, because distractions pull you away from your goals and can even lead to sin.

It's not just about what you do, it's about why you do it.

Ibrahim Shareef

Your morning routine doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to work for you, as long as the crucial ingredients are there.

Alum hi everybody and a warm welcome to the Baraka blueprint podcast this is the podcast where you align Faith with Focus to achieve success that truly lasts I am your host IIM Sharif and today we're going to we're going to be talking about one of the most if not the most transformative aspect of our day which is the morning routines how you start your day how you set the base for your day because with stable grounds and a stable base you will ensure that the Remain the remainder of the building can stand on firm grounds and that is in this case the morning routine but it's not just going to be any morning routine we're going to give we're going to be talking about a morning routine that is infused with Baraka now you may have heard the saying win your morning win your day very true 110% true but you need to understand that that for us as Muslims it's so much more than that it's not just winning your day or winning your morning it's winning your D and winning your winning the material life or the the tangible life and winning the afterlife and in order to do that and ensure that you have to make sure that your morning starts optimally and that you start in the best possible way to tackle the challenges of your day why do we talk about the mornings and why is the morning so important when does the morning start first of all it starts in F goes without saying why because the prophet sallallahu alai wasallam said that f as in Dawn the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said oh Allah bless my nation in its early mornings so it is very important that we start if we want to have the optimal amount of Baraka we start with the time that gives us the most Baraka God Almighty even swears on the early mornings he says he he swears a Divine oath on F he even swears a Divine oath on acts of worship that are connected to the morning and he swears a Divine Oath by Quran recitation specifically in F so it tells you how important this particular part of your day is so for you as a Muslim I'm going to I'm going to ask you a question if you find yourself alternating between waking up for fer and not waking up for fer do you see a difference in those two days now for your sake I'm hoping the answer is going to be yes I can tell you for one as a person who like any other human being I do struggle with my mornings also I can assure you and I can guarantee you that days that I start with f prayer in the Masjid specifically that day is my best day that day is the day where I learn the most where I am the most beneficial to people around me and to myself that's the day where I am the best in my relationships with the people around me that is the day where I have the best relationship with God the relationship that matters the absolute most and with that I ensure that I become my best possible self and it's only with your best possible self that you can further grow to a better version of yourself so how do we create a morning routine that is spiritually beneficial and and beneficial to our personal growth now as a point of reminder here we as human beings were created for no other purpose other than worshiping almighty God everything else that we're doing growing in our career growing with our families growing our families everything else in life should be tied to that reason or revolves around that reason whether we like it or not with that being said the best start of your morning and the best morning and the best day and the best night and the best anything is that that has a that is that which has a strong rigid firm Bridge as a connection to almighty God so it's not just about what you do it's about why you do it for example it's not just about praying F on time it's about understanding why you pray F on time it's about praying with a spiritual presence as in take your time with your W with the Abu that we clean ourselves before we start the prayer it's about understanding maybe for you who doesn't speak Arabic it's going to be difficult to understand the words that you're reciting but take your time with it take your time with your recitation take your time with your prayer because while you may not for now understand the words you are reciting at least try to understand why those are recited so the point number one like we said is to ensure that you pray your feder prayer with optimal mental and spiritual presence the second Point has to do with remembrance and Quran it is very important that we actively remember God Almighty as far as the words or the remembrances are concerned orar as we call them in Arabic it is very important that we have a routine for that in the morning and in the evening even if it is one word and even if it is one sentence it doesn't matter as long as it is active and as long as it is consistent Allah subhana says God Almighty says do not be like those that forgot their creator so he made them forget themselves it's very important that we stay connected spiritually to almighty God because without our spiritual self which is the Core Essence of our self we will end up in a situation where we will be absent and those that are absent in terms of whatever is happening around them they can be as successful as as ever but if you're not present in terms of what is going on all of this tangible success is not really going to matter so it is very important that the spiritual self is nourished and awake just like we Ure that we drink to ensure that we're hydrated just like we make sure that we eat so that we don't go around hungry just like we make sure that we sleep properly so that we don't go around sleep deprived and energy deprived it is very important that we nourish the spirit as well to ensure that our spiritual self is not declining so what you can do to ensure that you make sure that you have a strong connection to almighty God in your in your remembrances in your but also with the Quran that you reciting we mentioned this in the previous episode if you connect yourself to the Quran you will ensure that you are protected the book itself is protected the words themselves are protected the recitation itself is protected so if you connect yourself to it automatically you're going to be protected that is the Sunnah of life so for example reciting a one of the most powerful verses in the Quran recite that every day and every night if that's all you can do if not recite or anything just as long as you make sure that you stay connected to almighty God and that will ensure that you have your Baraka fill success during that day now that we've discussed the spiritual Foundation of your day let's talk about the physical preparation look I'm not going to be the person that tells you actually no I am going to be the person that tells you it's very important that you're physically active I'm trying myself I'm trying my absolute best to be like that and to exercise in a routine manner for example that I set a specific goal for me a specific goal is to exercise four times a week and I do my best to try to achieve that nothing more nothing less four times a week I know I can do four times a week plus I ensure that four times a week I go and exercise for me I try to do that in the morning because that is the best time gym is not as full I don't have as much work to do in the morning so I can ensure that I'm exercising early on and then I take on the challenge of the day so I do recommend that you are physically active uberman at the uberman lab one of my personal favorite podcasts and one of my personal favorite content creators also uh he was talking about the importance of getting the right exposure of sunlight or Daylights uh in the morning that of itself you can do that when you have your morning walk have a morning walk for a couple of minutes 10 15 minutes you I'm sure you can afford that just that very simple Act of you know taking a a fresh breath of air and exposing yourself to the the Daylights that in itself will set you in a neurological mood where the output of yourself or whatever you're producing is going to be that much more effective so besides physical exercise it's very important to stay hydrated as well now for us as Muslims we fast Ramadan so you either make sure that you have the optimal level of hydration before before your ends so before or if you're not fasting as in like after Ramadan it is important to ensure that we are hydrated ated throughout the day because with proper hydration you ensure that you are your best physiological self to tackle whatever challenge you have because you know I mean you know it yourself if you're dehydrated like you're dizzy you're not able to focus very much have a bottle of water with you have it filled with water fresh ice cold water if you're like me there are some people I know that don't like ice cold water I don't understand why but fair enough make sure that you're always hydrated finally it is the Nia the very very important to have a a clear intention you have the big picture intention the high level intention which is to I am going to spend today to please God Almighty I'm going to spend the day as an act of worship of almighty God no matter what I'm doing my project management my work my relationship whatever it is I do everything for the sake of almighty God directly or indirectly that is the high level then you have the detailed what is the purpose of your day I personally recommend you to use the calendar and use it correctly schedule your day if you spend your mornings to do that if you spend one time once a week to schedule your entire week do that but ensure that you have a schedule for the day very important you know what we talked about AI in the previous episode use a tool like jet GPT to set up a daily plan simple it's just a couple of clicks with your computer your phone whatever you're using set a daily plan give it we talked about PR prompt engineering how important it is include that in your prompt hey these are things that I have to do these are tasks that are non-negotiable and they have to be in these specific times these are tasks that are not very time specific but I need to be done with them today they take this much time it gives you a schedule hey you can even create an i IC file from cat GPT and then add it to your Apple calendar or Google Calendar whatever it is so have a clear intention and a clear plan for what you want to achieve in that day now let's talk about some challenges actually I can summarize it to one point this ractions distractions will keep us away from our goal and our vision and what we want to achieve and they can even they can even put us in SIN number one it is very important to understand that our time is in our time is a trust from almighty God and we should not waste it God Almighty says chapter number 17 and do not waste extravagantly so we need to make sure that we don't waste the day our time is our most valuable asset more valuable than money more valuable than physical health everything time is the most valuable asset so we need to make sure that we don't waste it connected to that try to set a rule for yourself the first 30 minutes you don't use your phone when you wake up I know it's very difficult it's very easy to check okay what notifications have I missed you see something in Instagram or Tik Tok and then you scroll scroll scroll scroll scroll it doesn't end it is very important to ensure that you eliminate your distractions at least the very very beginning of your morning and then you can get to it but eliminating the distractions very early will set you on a winning streak and the final point to avoid distractions think about batching your tasks have batches for example when you get ready to go to work so you can what you can do is as we established it's very important to have your morning remembrances andar if you can't recite it no problem on your phone put in YouTube the morning from or anyone that you're listening to just WR morning simple on YouTube or whatever platform you're using put your headphones on listen to it while you prepare it's preparing your outfit or whatever it could be so now you're batching your tasks you're not wasting time the opposite of wasting time you're saving time with the help of batching your tasks so in summary let's go through our morning routine step number one F prayer non-negotiable 10 minutes with praying you know if you praying before F do that the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said that the two voluntary units before f is more valuable than everything in Earth so if you want to get even more reward and even more Baraka in your day better do it 10 minutes give or take add more time if you're going to go to the Masjid even better if you do that second step and Remembrance 10 minutes is right now we what 20 minutes 25 minutes 30 minutes at Max this is how we have started so far this is the 30 minutes where you don't have your phone step number three a light exercise a little little bit of walking get that daylight in to set yourself on a neurologically successful path and the final step set your intention for the day and have a structured clear daily agenda and use chat GPT for that also why not now remember one more thing as well your morning routine doesn't have to be perfect it just has to work for you and you just have to ensure that the crucial part and The crucial ingredients of your morning is there for example your connection to God crucial important non-negotiable it has to be there you don't like to exercise you don't like to walk no problem by time develop to that but at least ensure that the crucial ingredients are there let's start small this week from this episode until next episode together we try to focus on one Baraka filled task that we do each and every morning and let's help each other out you choose your thing and let's help one another and let's support
