Pairings & contrast
Approved combinations with measured contrast, and the banned ones.
Every ratio below is measured against the composited colour, not guessed. Where a token is defined with alpha — like the 65% off-white used for secondary text — it is flattened onto its real backdrop first, because measuring a translucent colour against nothing is how you end up shipping unreadable text that passed a checker.
Measured pairings
- Off-white on Dark Green15.20:1AAA
The default. Use this unless there is a reason not to.
- Lime on Dark Green13.37:1AAA
The accent pairing. Safe at any size.
- Void on Lime17.44:1AAA
The ONLY approved way to put text on a lime fill. Every lime button uses it.
- Secondary text on Void8.38:1AAA
This is --color-text-secondary (65% off-white) composited, not a raw hex.
- HUD on Void12.21:1AAA
Instrument labels on the darkest canvas.
- Shape Blue on Dark Green4.69:1AA
Passes for body, but blue is a shape colour. Do not start using it as text.
- Muted on Card3.59:1Large only
Below 4.5:1. Fine for a 24px+ label or a rule; never for a paragraph.
- Off-white on Lime1.14:1Never
Effectively invisible. If you have written white text on a lime fill, it is a bug.
